Navigating grief and trauma after the loss of your baby, with Clinical Psychologist Dr Kara Davey | S3E32
Losing your child or baby, either in pregnancy, during birth or after is an incredibly traumatic, painful experience and one that it often feels like no one else can understand or support you through. Whether it’s by people at work saying nothing because they don’t know what to say, leaving you feeling isolated, or by friends you thought would understand saying the wrong thing entirely, feeling unsupported through the grieving process is sadly really common. Today’s podcast guest aims to support bereaved parents through this process using her lived and professional experience.
That guest joining us today is Dr Kara Davey – the founder of ‘Kara Clinical Psychologist in Sussex’. She is an award-winning Clinical Psychologist and Coach accredited with the British Psychological Society, Health Care Professions Council and the EMDR Association. Kara is a trauma, infertility and baby loss specialist, who also has lived experience of baby loss. Kara is extremely passionate about what she does. She provides free online baby loss support groups, has developed free leaflets and online video resources, as well as offering 1:1 support.
In this episode, we’re chatting about:
- How Kara’s experience of loss led to her helping other parents professionally through trauma, infertility and baby loss
- Different types of grief and why you might find you and your partner grieve differently
- What other, secondary losses you find might come after the loss of your baby
- How to distinguish between a traumatic reaction and the grieving process
